News Release: Federal Marketing Order Hearings Set to Begin July 20 in Las Cruces, NM

Public Hearings for Federal Marketing Order Scheduled for July

The U. S. Department of Agriculture has announced and is proceeding with a expedited schedule for the Federal Marketing Order for Pecans. Based on recent meetings in Washington with the American Pecan Board, the proponent group representing the pecan industry, USDA staff has indicated a preference for a schedule that would allow for the Order to be in place for the 2016 pecan crop.

The tentative schedule, though not official until published by USDA, is as follows:

Monday and Tuesday, July 20-21:  West Region Hearing in Las Cruces, NM

Thursday and Friday, July 23-24:  Central Region Hearing in Dallas, TX

Monday and Tuesday, July 27-28 (possible overflow day on 29th): East Region Hearing in Georgia (location yet to be determined).

In an effort to keep the industry informed, the American Pecan Board will publish up-to-date information on its website at www.pecanboard.com. The draft of the Federal Marketing Order has recently been posted on the website. Pecan stakeholders are encouraged to check the website for updates.
